Duke of Edinburgh Silver Practice

Students in Year 10 have returned from a highly successful Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) practice expedition in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, marking an important milestone in their Silver Award journey.

Over the course of the expedition, students demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and determination as they navigated a series of planned routes across varied terrain. Carrying full expedition kits, groups worked collaboratively to follow maps, manage time effectively, and support one another through the physical and mental challenges of the experience.

The expedition was delivered with the expert support of Ocean Rock Adventure, whose experienced instructors provided guidance, safety oversight, and encouragement throughout. Their professional approach ensured that students were both challenged and supported, gaining valuable skills in navigation, campcraft, and outdoor safety.

The practice expedition forms a key preparation stage for the assessed expedition later in the term, and students have returned with increased confidence and a clearer understanding of what will be required. They have also developed important life skills including leadership, communication, resilience, and self-reliance—values at the heart of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Well done to all students involved—we look forward to seeing them build on this success in their qualifying expedition.
