During the day, students had the opportunity to meet local individuals and organisations and learn about the work they do to protect our environment. We were very fortunate to have a number of visitors attending who ran an interactive session for our students.

It was an important day for the school to raise awareness of a global issue, inspire our students to take action, and to reassure individuals who are worried about the impact of climate change that so much fantastic work is being done already by many people in our local community.

Miss Kennedy would like to thank all those who ran sessions during the day, and all staff and students who took part for their support and enthusiasm. 

Congratulations to our prize winners: Flo S (9LB) who achieved first place, followed by Fred C (9CH) in second place and Madeline E (7WI1) in third place. Highly commended entries were awarded to Harry W (8IS1), and Layla B (9LB).

A huge thank you to all students who took part and contributed to such a thoughtful and engaging competition.

17 schools participated in the event which included a mix of state, grammar and private schools from Cheltenham and the surrounding area.  A team of 4 students from HSL were selected to compete and participated in practice sessions to build the skills necessary to complete this challenge. These students were Daniel C and Tessie S from Year 8 and Millie D and Chanuga P from Year 9. 

It’s an inspiring space showcasing the talent of our pupils, bringing our community together and shining a spotlight on the brilliant art being created across our Trust.

Join the world's largest garden wildlife survey this weekend to help the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) build a picture of how garden birds are faring.

To take part, spend an hour watching the birds in your garden between 23 and 25 January and record the birds that land using the tally chart below. Then submit your results online or by post.

We are delighted to share a video of our talented Year 8 and Year 9 vocalists 'Fourte' who performed at our Christmas celebration, so that everyone in The High School Leckhampton community and beyond can enjoy their performance.  

The High School Leckhampton is delighted to announce that Alex Willett has won the prestigious 2025 Royal Geographical Society's Young Geographer of the Year for Key Stage 4. 

On 5th December, Alex, his family and Mr Newman travelled to London for his award ceremony at the society's headquarters in Kensington. Alex was 1 of only 2 winners for the Key Stage 4 category and everyone at the school extends their warmest congratulations to Alex for his achievement. 

This international award is given to pupils from primary years up to A Level who have demonstrated creative and analytical thinking about geography in line with our annual theme.

For this year’s competition, entrants were asked to design posters or ArcGIS StoryMaps that engaged with the theme, ‘Understanding islands,’ highlighting the unique geographies, challenges, and connections between islands around the world and the communities and ecosystems they support.

With over 400 schools participating and many holding their own preliminary heats, the 1,200 entries received by the Society this year represent just a fraction of the overall number of participating students.

Judges evaluated entrants’ analysis of the unique geographical challenges and opportunities present on their chosen island(s), as well as their visual representation and storytelling. Alex's entry is shown above and was praised for it's clear and concise presentation style as well as the high quality of the categorisation of issues facing the islands. 

Elisa spoke to students about the life-changing difference a guide dog can make. She explained that from the age of 14, young people who are blind or partially sighted can have a guide dog, helping them build confidence and independence as they grow up. This support ensures they can access their rights just like any other young person.

The service included the recital of the Kohima Epitaph and the traditional two-minute silence at 11:00 a.m., allowing everyone to pause and remember the bravery and dedication of the Armed Forces, past and present. The last post was played at the service. 

Our Library created a special display of works by Black authors and books about inspirational figures, while students took part in a whole-school Knowledge Hunt exploring key Black contributors in every subject — from Nina Simone to David Olusoga.

Creating an Eco-Code, a mission statement that acts as a call to action for all, is the seventh and final step of our application process for the Eco-Schools Green Flag: this is an accreditation that acknowledges, rewards and celebrates the ecological achievements of young people.

We are nearly ready to submit our application to renew our Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation for this academic year and will let you know in September whether we have been successful!

Admissions 2026

In the Autumn Term, our school was in the top 10% nationally for school attendance and in the spring term, we were in the top 25%. Well done to all students who clearly place great value on their own education! 

Our pupils made an excitable but tentative start and we unfortunately lost our first game by 4 runs. That didn't hold us back though, as we won our next two games before lunch meaning that we went through to the semi finals as group runners up. 

In the semi finals, we played a team from Bristol (former winners of the competition) so we knew that we were in for a challenging game. Going into the last over, we were chasing the game but we scored 19 runs meaning we propelled ourselves into the final.  

We are incredibly proud that 98% of parents who responded to the survey said their child was happy at HSL. With only 14 schools in the entire country achieving a higher score (99%), and the national average standing at 83%, this is a testament to the positive environment we strive to create for our students every day.
