The High School Leckhampton The High School Leckhampton

50 Objects Competition 2023

The response of the High School Leckhampton Community to our very first History competition has been absolutely incredible! In March students and staff were asked by their History teachers, Mrs Cox and Mrs Wood, to enter The 50 Objects Competition. We asked members of the school community to select an object that perfectly captured the essence of the year so far, draw it and then write a justification for their choice.

The effort and consideration that went into the entries was impressive, with a range of different objects chosen with very thoughtful explanations. This made it extremely difficult for Mrs Wood and the Leadership team to select a winner and two runners up!

However, we are delighted to announce that the winner is Tee Redfearn, in 8WI, who chose a tree.

In explaining the decision, Mrs Wood said

'Tee's entry was really thoughtful and justified, we were particularly impressed by how imaginatively she had associated all aspects of a tree, from roots to tip, with our school and our journey. It was a very difficult decision, choosing from hundreds of different suggestions but Mr Newman, Mrs O'Riordan and I felt that Tee's choice and her justification really encapsulated HSL!'

Our two runners up were Isla Johnston, also of 8WI, who chose bricks, and Oshan Cooper, 7WI, for a door.

Both were chosen and justified brilliantly, showing really careful thought. Thank you to everyone, students and staff, who submitted an entry for the competition. A selection of them will be displayed in school in the next fortnight.
