Humanities Week - Visit by Bishop Rachel

To mark the start of our Humanities Week, we were delighted to welcome Bishop Rachel of Gloucester, accompanied by the Reverend Gary Grady, to our school. Bishop Rachel spoke to our Year 8 pupils about her interesting journey from Speech and Language Therapist in London to becoming the first female diocesan bishop in Gloucestershire and the first female bishop in the House of Lords.  She spoke about her role in the Lords, attending the Queen’s funeral, and being interviewed on the BBC.  Bishop Rachael also answered lots of questions from pupils and staff.

When asked what the one thing in the world she would change was, she said it was to tackle climate change. She also talked about her work with prisons and her #Liedentity Campaign which raises awareness of body image anxiety in young people and the pressures they face through social media, TV and advertising to look a certain way, changing the message that ‘who you are, is all about how you look’.  Her messages were all linked to our Humanities Week theme - Be the change and change the world - as she reminded us all of the small things we can do to make a difference in the world.
